{Real Wedding} Elizabeth & Matt – Dallas, Brook Hollow Golf Club

The Now Stylebook’s funny, fashionable editor Elizabeth shares her love story…

Deep in the heart of Texas, the lovely blogger, Elizabeth of The Now Stylebook, celebrated her very special day.  A little over 2 years ago, Elizabeth and Matthew said, “I do.” Happy Anniversary! What a stunning bride Elizabeth was in her Monique Lhullier gown!  Yes, their photos are absolutely stunning, but it is their story that had me swooning. From their 1st meeting, to the proposal, to the details of the wedding day, it is something to celebrate!

I am from Dallas TX, but lived in San Diego for 5 years before moving back and dating/marrying Matt. I have been working as a personal assistant for the past two years. I had some ca-raaazy bosses and have some incredible {not in a good way} stories, but now I work as my dad’s assistant and couldn’t ask for a better boss! My friends really miss all the
hilarious stories I provided though.

Matt and I are both from Dallas and tons of mutual friends, but we never met until college. Our best friends {shout out Annie} from high school went to Vanderbilt together and we met through them randomly in Dallas at the horse races. I was really bored at the races so I bought jockey goggles and wore them around as a joke {there may have been margaritas involved}.
Matt thought I was the weirdest person he had ever met. After years of not seeing each other, we “re-met” through another mutual friend and started dating. I had forgotten all about the jockey goggles incident until we were sharing old stories and realized that we had met each other that day…and that I was the weirdo in the goggles! I was always great with making excellent first impressions on men.

The Proposal
I came home after work one day and Matt had already beaten me home which never happened. I walked in the door and planned on walking right back out to run some errands, but he said he needed to talk. He told me he had gone to lunch with my dad/boss that day {total shock to me} to ask if I could take Friday and Monday off of work because wanted to take me to my favorite city, New Orleans, for the weekend. This was not like Matt to do something that spur of the moment so I knew something was up! I thought he was going to propose in New Orleans and that I would just be on edge every time he dropped something or leaned over to tie his shoe! Instead, he went on to tell me that he had also asked for my hand in marriage, then got down on one knee and proposed to me. It was the most surreal & happiest moments of my life. It took me about 2 hours before I realized we weren’t just engaged, we were going to plan a wedding!!!

Experience their Wedding
At first I wanted to have the biggest, craziest and most beautiful weddings that anyone had ever seen…what girl doesn’t dream of having that perfect day! Unfortunately, my family went through a major financial crisis and our budget was cut down to a fraction of the original. We went back to square one and had to figure out what was really important to us. Matt and I agreed that all we really wanted was a non-fussy party with all of our closest friends & family, good food and dancing. Ultimately that is exactly
what we got. It was the best party of our lives!!
My favorite detail were the flowers at the reception. The most memorable elements were the cherry blossom branches and a giant crystal tree at the center of the escort table when you first entered the reception. I was also partial to that table because I made the escort cards myself! Oh the food was incredible too! We had chicken fried steak {Matt’s favorite} with cheese grits. Brook Hollow has the best food!
Swoon Worthy Details
My dad came over the week of our wedding to choreograph our father/daughter dance. He made me pull up The Temptations on
You Tube so we could emulate their moves to “My Girl” perfectly. My dad and I both love to dance so it was such a fun time.

There obviously were so many great moments, but the things I enjoyed the most were the rehearsal dinner, getting ready with all
of my best friends on the day of the wedding and walking down the aisle. I hadn’t seen Matt since the night before and all I wanted to do was get down the aisle to see him!

I found my wedding dress in the first hour of looking, but I spent MONTHS looking for my rehearsal dinner dress and wedding shoes! Totally worth the extra time!!

Thank you, Elizabeth for sharing your story with us!  When we meet you for the 1st time, we hope you are wearing goggles!

The most important thing to Elizabeth and Matt was to have a non-fussy party, and a party it was!  What is the most important part of your big day?
